James Morrison’s ‘From Swing to Soul’

We’re always pleased to welcome back one of Twilight at Taronga’s long-standing annual favourites, James Morrison.

Come on a journey that begins with the classic swinging jazz of the James Morrison Quartet – and ends with the groove of his new Soul Band.

In one night, you’ll hear jazz standards in the style of Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson and so many of the legends of jazz. Then after a short interval, it’s time for the groove of James Brown, Ray Charles and a host of hits from the Soul and Blues song book.

Bursting onto the international stage at age 16, Morrison performed at Europe’s major festivals and has played with many legends of jazz including Dizzy Gillespie, Cab Calloway, Woody Shaw, Red Rodney, George Benson, Ray Charles, B.B. King and Ray Brown. 

Morrison has also played gigs in the world’s most famous jazz clubs – The Blue Note, Village Vanguard and Dizzy’s in New York, the New Morning in Paris, The Tokyo Blue Note and Ronnie Scott’s in London – and guested with many great artists as diverse as jazz superstars Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones and rock legends INXS.
